Florenzio Acuna married  Mercedes Ortega

Florenzio was born August 19th, 1879 in Sonora, Mexico.  He died September 19th, 1921 in Bisbee, Arizona at age 42.  His father was, Jose Maria Acuna; and his mother's maiden name was Demetria Figueroa, both of Mexico.  

Mercedes was born October 14th, 1883 in Chihuahua, Chihuahua, Mexico.  She died February 1981 in Bisbee, Arizona at age 97.  Her father was Francisco Ortega, and her mother’s maiden name was Francisca Najera both of Tlaxcala, Mexico.  Mercedes remarried after the death of Florenzio and became Mercedes Camacho.  Mercedes was a devout Christian and attended the Assamblea De Dios church on Star Avenue.  She spoke exclusively in Spanish and wore the traditional black mantilla of the widows of Mexico.

Their Children follow in order of birth:

1.  Francisco O. Acuna “Chico” was born August 16th, 1905 at the Buenavista Mining  Camp, Sonora, Mexico.    The 1930 census shows Frank living at 110 Moon Canyon (now called Star Ave) with his brother and sister, Florencio (age 17) & Demetria (age 16) ; and with his aunt and grandmother, Carmen Ortega (age 32) & Trinidad Ortega (age 70).  He is listed as head of household.  Francisco changed his name to Frank O. Acuna when he was naturalized May 9th, 1941 at the age of 35.  Frank married Virginia Ruiz (date?) (see Salas family tree).  She was born April 2nd, 1919 in Christmas, AZ.  She died December 12th, 2008.  Frank died November 1974 in Bisbee, AZ of a stroke.

2.     Jose Maria Acuna was born July 15th, 1909 at the Buenavista Mining Camp, Sonora.  He died as an infant on November 22nd, 1909 in Cananea, Sonora where the family had moved.

3.  Florencio O. Acuna "Lencho" was born 1912 in Cananea, Sonora.  He married Angelita Salas (see Salas family tree) in 1940.  Angie was born in Rosemont, AZ.  Florencio died (date?).  The 1946-47 Bisbee Directory records Florencio & Angie living at 22C Spring Canyon.  It also lists Mercedes Camacho living at 23 Spring Canyon.     

4.  Demetria O. Acuna “Meta” was born January 17th, 1914 in Cananea, Sonora.  She never married and died June 13th, 2001 in Bisbee, AZ.  Meta lived her later years in the home of her niece, Ester & Joe Rivera in Bisbee.  Nana Mercedes also lived in that home until her death.  Meta was very involved in her church, the Assamblea De Dios in Bisbee.  She was a great influence on her many nephews, nieces and family members and much loved.

5.  Socorro O. Acuna was born June 10th, 1916 in Cananea, Sonora.  Socorro died in infancy June 30th, 1917 in Bisbee, AZ.  Socorro’s short life marked a milestone for the Acuna family – it was between her birth and death that the family immigrated from Sonora to Arizona.

6.  Trinidad O. Acuna was born August 10th 1917 in Bisbee, AZ.  Trinidad died in infancy on February 22nd, 1918 in Bisbee.  She was the first of the Acuna family to be born in the United States.

7.  Mercedes O. Acuna “Maya” was born (date?) 1920 in Bisbee, AZ.  She married Armando Martinez.  Maya died (day?) February, 1992 in Tucson, AZ.  Maya & Armando lived on Star Ave in Bisbee right next door to Frank & Virginia Acuna and next to the Assamblea de Dios church.

8.  Alice O. Acuna “Alicia” was born July 19, 1921 in Bisbee, AZ.  She married Antonio “Tony” Carbajal in 1942.  Alice and Tony lived in Douglas, AZ where they raised their family.  Alice died (date?).  Tony died (date?).
